How to Use the Virtual Puzzles
Press anywhere on the cube and drag. Let go before a quarter turn and it goes back.
This is how the app lets you play with any of the virtual puzzles.
Or the keyboard
Tab to the cube, then:
- R
- the right side
- L
- the left side
- U
- the top layer
- D
- the bottom layer
- F
- the front side, lower left
- B
- the back side
- M
- the middle column, between left and right
- E
- the middle row, between top and bottom
- S
- the middle layer, between front and back
Hold Shift to turn a layer the other way. These are the letters puzzle fans use to write moves down, so anybody who already reads R U R′ U′ can type it.
This table and the suggestion page are the only places on this site that use these letters. The app says every move in words.
What this is
A Feel for the Turning
One puzzle and a drag that behaves the way the app’s does. That is the whole of this page: somewhere to find out how the thing moves under a thumb before you decide whether you want it.
The app is where the work happens, in 4 modes, each said here the way the app says it:
- Learn Study the puzzles’ inner construction and learn useful moves.
- Fix Input your scrambled puzzle and put it right step by step.
- Play Try virtual puzzles to customise, scramble and solve, if you can!
- Race Challenge a friend on the same scramble, or take on today’s.
The app works in colour, on 23 puzzles, where this page has one.
Everything stays on your device
The script is one file served from this site. The only things it asks for are the pictures, from this same site. It does not set a cookie or count anything, and the one thing it keeps in your browser is which colours you chose, so the cube is the same next time. Turning the cube here is between you and your own machine. 2 other pages on this site run a short script: the price on the support page and the page a shared puzzle’s link opens. The privacy policy says what each one does.
If the turning felt right, the app is the rest of it.
